Meet Yourself Where You Are

Hey ya'll,

How's it going?? Going to stick with this new format to see how it sticks - hope you dig it!

Musings
I've been giving a lot of thought to advice I often give clients, friends, my kids, and myself. The advice is "meet yourself where you are!"

So what does that mean? Think of it this way. We are naturally goal- and acquisition-oriented. Trying to achieve the next thing, buy the next thing, save for the next thing - then life shakes up our lives with unexpected grief, loss, illness, an accident...something that disrupts our flow significantly. Then what happens? We tell ourselves, "I just need to get through this until I can...," and once again we are postponing life in a way.

So what if our WHOLE LIVES are in the messy middle of our chaos and beauty -- our joy and heartbreak? It feels like most of us are in a perpetual spin cycle of emotions because the world is filled with heartbreak. It can be hard to chase the joy, keep it positive, and shoulder the heavy. I know. I get it. So some days I find myself weepy and despondent. Others bright and chipper and ready to expunge negativity from our universe. Most days are filled with both ends of the spectrum...and isn't life the same? So why do we struggle to be where we are?!

I could get into the neuroscience of our thoughts and what it takes to change them, but I have something far simpler to offer.

What if for the next seven to 10 days you spent your time riding the wave of your lives? If it feels like shit, let it and get those emotions out - cry, rage, scream, collapse in a puddle. Just show up for yourself in a way that doesn't add more weight to the load you already carry. If you're having an exceptional day and flying high? Pass on that energy to another by offering an extra smile, hug, or kind words.

What would a world look like if we all just allowed ourselves the grace to be where we are instead of the continuous strain of trying to be somewhere we aren't? I imagine it might be magical. Maybe we can all give it a go!
Much love, xo Gabrielle
