Is Everyday Bliss Possible?

Life is full and sometimes exhausting, yet I am finding more than ever to savor the bliss of the everyday. I didn't think I'd get here. I remember recently a trusted person in my life said, "maybe you need to get comfortable with being a little bored and enjoying the normalcy of the everyday." And I can tell you my immediate response was HELL NO!!! Blech, B O R I N G! I mean, who the hell wants to live everyday in the same old, same old? NOT ME!

Yet here's the rub! We are conditioned to think that somehow living the ins and outs of the "everyday" is exactly the same when it's not. Perhaps it's in the everyday where the magic actually happens. If we really take the time to notice, we may find that each day is indeed markedly different. When we slow down enough to stay present to the newness of life, even when some tasks are repetitive, what is it that we might discover? What if we arrived to each day meeting ourselves exactly where we are? What if we started each day doing a proper check in, and taking inventory of our resources so we can calibrate for the day ahead?

These four questions can provide tremendous insight into how or why we may feel more powerful some days than others.

1. Do I feel rested today?

2. How am I feeling emotionally today?

3. Does my body need any attention today?

4. What's up with my headspace today?

Then, approach the day with deep consideration to how you answered. What if you honored the answers? What if you went into your day deciding to ask for the things that fuel you? What if you considered asking for help with the laundry when you're too tired? Picking up the phone and ordering in from four different spots because you don't want to cook or hear arguments over where to call? What about giving the kids more to do because they can and you deserve the help? What if you actually told your boss really how you feel about their ideas, management style and the way it may impact you at work? What if you were truly, fully self expressed? What if we approached each day as if we were actually the main priority?

What if the everyday bliss was in honoring ourselves? Ask the questions, give it some thought. Let me know what you discover.

I look forward to sharing more in the weeks to come.

Happy July. xo, Gabrielle

a watercolor inspired by the Nor'easter Happy "More Rain" Monday from Central NJ! I write you this morning with deep feelings of rage and heartbreak about the state of the world, and specifically over the court ruling in the Cornell SA case. As a survivor, I am utterly digusted and exhausted from the bullshit and lack of accountability for every violent criminal that walks free and most of all, the person holding the highest office in America. The insults and reminders are everywhere and all...

The Joy of Hosting Female Leaders

The Joy of Hosting Female Leaders Happy Saturday, I've been giving a lot of thought to the conversations I've been having with colleagues about work life these days and the strain of leadership, managing profitability and maintaining a healthy team.Professional spaces and membership organizations like LinkedIn, Chief, vYve, and others talk a lot about leadership skills. Communication. Strategy. Accountability. Being Decisive. Emotional intelligence. Yet we rarely talk about JOY. Not happiness...

Wild skies over Manasquan "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Maya Angelou Ooooof! It's been an emotional couple of weeks. And I find myself contemplating this quote and these tough questions as I navigate my feelings of hurt and betrayal. How are we showing up when we are let down? How are we healing when our heart breaks? How can we trust that we are loved and lovable even when we are excluded? How will we learn to honor the process? How will we get better at...
